Educ 6810 - PSA

I created my PSA for teachers.  Basically I say exactly what I needed to say - we, as educators, need to realize the generation that these children are growing up in.  We need to make sure that we are making their time at school worth while and we need to teach them the critical skills of media - they need to be aware of the good and the bad. I used the plain folk technique as well as rhetorical questions.  I start off with a question for teachers to understand the critical areas of the media that we need to be teaching as well as keeping up in our lessons.

  1. Emily, your PSA was very powerful! I love how you stated, “teachers are not taking into consideration that students are from a new generation.” This is very true! Your PSA shows how vital it is for young people to be media literate. You explain the gap between the classroom and home very well, and your pictures make a strong contribution. Your PSA is upbeat and explains how students can be more engaged in media literacy, than just by using textbooks and worksheets. Great job!

  2. Your PSA will have such a positive impact on teachers! I like how you highlighted the importance of media literacy as opposed to worksheets (I hate them as much as students do). If we want to connect with our students, we have to know what will engage them!

  3. Nicely done. I think it conveyed the message that in this day and age media literacy is important part of every day life. I think many parents could benefit fromt this as well. I have seen my mother believe messages or ads she sees and I have to explain how horrible a company is or that she was seeing the fine print. I like the positive approach you took as opposed to some of the scare tactics I used. Good job.

  4. I liked your stats and the different backgrounds you used. I see you focused on telling the audience about how much new-age students like technology and dislike traditional forms of learning. I'm sure you got your point across to the audience.

  6. My 8 year old daughter is sitting next to me and when your PSA ended she said, "That's true!" Your PSA is very good! Very organized and to the point with great images. I also think you did a great job showing urgency in this situation. Excellent work!

  7. Your PSA is straight forward and persuasive. Teachers are not connecting their teachings to the things students are interested outside of school. Good Job!

  8. Great points for teachers to work with media rather than ignore it. You had a typo or two in your ad but excellent overall.
